Today in ripping discs, I’m trying something new

We have #GodsNotDead3 on #BluRay and it’s in bad shape. Not only does it not rip, but the last time the family tried playing it, it kept stuttering (although they were able to eventually get it to limp until the end).

Instead of attempting my typical #MakeMKV rip retry, I’m going to use the decrypt and backup feature and see how that goes. I have no idea if it does anything functionally different, but it’d be pretty interesting to see if it’s successful.

I hope it works because this is the only confirmed case I know of where we have a disk in such bad shape that it won’t play right, and it’s not because it got broken or anything (it’s also relatively clean)

@realcaseyrollins maybe try getting a clean bitwise copy first using ddrescue? It's saved a couple failing hard disks for me over the years and might be able to do the same for optical media.

@realcaseyrollins I haven't used any but TestDisk looks to be recommended in a couple places

I’m having trouble getting it to work with the disk. Hopefully I can find another bitwise copier for #Windows10! They seem few and far between though
