Idle question for Ameringlish speakers. Do you call a piece of music a song even when there isn't a singer?
I've encountered a few instances of "song" used for a piece of music played for a 19th-century dance.

@sunflowerinrain yes, as long as it has a melody that could be sung. "The Chicken Dance is an oom-pah song," Wikipedia says, and that follows common usage here.
@khird It was used to refer to music played for waltzes and cotillions; I'm not convinced the pieces could be sung.
