Afaik the history of monero is forking bitcoin and fixing the obvious major issues:
1. The usage of ASICs that ruined the whole BTC economy and that have a devastating effect on global ecology
2. making it anonymous instead of broadcasting everything you buy to the world.
3. Making it significantly better implemented to avoid pump-n-dumps

and afaik everyone benefits from it?
