Book review: I recommend "The Sea of Tranquility" by Emily St. John Mandel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_of_Tranquility_(novel). I loved the characters and the feeling of tranquil disconnection throughout the book. I read about half of it while camping, sitting in my comfy backpacking chair with this view, which is how I recommend you read it :). I would guess that fans of more character-driven, literary sci-fi would appreciate this more than hard-core sci-fi fans. I didn't really care for the sci-fi story as much as the little vignettes in the lives of individual characters, maybe similar to the early sections of "Cloud Atlas". #moa
@kristinmbranson 100%. I think her work is more of the Atwood vein of speculative fiction that's really beautifully written, with characters I want to get to know. Diametrically opposed to Asimov, say😄 (Loved Station Eleven also, but hope she doesn't get pigeon-holed as "pandemic sci-fi")
@lzamparo Agree! I actually just read a few Asimov robot books, and while they had interesting ideas, the lack of relatable characters made it hard for me to enjoy. I do think about the tele-world in "The Naked Sun" when I think about pandemic life.
