Remember those German academics who developed a fraud detector that actually did nothing but look at whether the authors used institutional email addresses, had international collaborators, and were affiliated with a hospital?

And then they concluded, based on this "detector", that a high fraction of the papers out of Asia and the Global South are fraudulent?

And then they got a glowing writeup in Science?

(If you missed it: fediscience.org/@ct_bergstrom/)

Turns out there's data on all this.

New paper!
Cytoelectric Coupling: Electric fields sculpt neural activity and “tune” the brain’s infrastructure.

Brain waves carry info and alter the brain on the molecular level. This tunes the cytoskeleton, optimizing network function.

Work by Dimitris Pinotsis.

Great talk by @dbarack on neural manifolds, highly recommend it.

Around min 30 David states that the manifold idea/findings indicates emergence in the sense of being irreducible to individual neurons. Do others think neural manifolds provide interesting evidence of emergence?

If so, along a spectrum of types of emergence, where does it fall?
