Went to the bank to get a college bond for my niece and apparently that's not a thing anymore? When did society stop doing college bonds? That's the disappointing gift I remember all my aunts and uncles giving me as a kid.

What the fuck? So I go to the Treasury's website directly to buy a savings bond for my niece, and apparently if I want to give it as a gift, I first need to get my brother to sign up for an account with the Treasury's website.

It's literally impossible to give a savings bond as a gift without the recipient essentially pre-registering to receive their gift.

Guess who's not buying a savings bond anymore?

@louis I have a $50 US savings bond that my great grandmother bought for me when I was born and about once per year I am reminded that I should get around to figuring out how to cash out as a not-American living in not-America. I love the concept but the whole process of everything to do with savings bonds is so confusing!

(Thanks for the reminder haha)
