Hi, I'm old. I just found out that the phrase is "left on read" and not "left unread" and I can't understand why you young whippersnappers talk so strangely

@progo I'm told that it's a scenario where Person 1 sends a message on a platform that does read receipts, and then Person 2 opens the message but doesn't reply.

Person 1 knows that Person 2 has seen the message but since they haven't received a reply, they've been "left on 'read'".

Very similar to having a message "left unread" (which the kids *don't* say, I'm told) but the key difference being that the sender knows the recipient *has* seen the message.
