We ordered an iPhone 17e for @becky to replace her iPhone 12 mini.

The Lightning port was only working intermittently, the battery life was getting pretty bad, and there was some debris in or a scratch on the camera lens that was occasionally visible in photos.

She doesn’t love the idea of moving to a larger device, but Apple leaves us with little choice on the matter. We could have found a refurbished iPhone 13 mini, but spending $300+ on a 3–5 year old device didn’t seem wise.

@mike I don't use my phone much since I'm at the computer all day but I've been on the 13 mini since it came out and this is part of my reason for hanging onto it for dear life. (No case though—and in great shape!) Though my brother pointed out, at least you get more of the front of the phone being a screen (calculations ignoring corners and camera cutout).

Oh how I wanted them to release a smaller thicker phone as the cheap model. I had the SE prior to the 13 mini so cheap and small is evidently my preference.
