I am once again reminded that while stats about people joining a religion are interesting, in the case of religions that push the idea of some post-death benefits to those in the right state at death, stats on the number of followers dying would be more beneficial to see if you want to show how well a religion is doing over time at propagating their message.

@jezza I guess I'm not old enough or have enough bad experiences with young people in the neighbourhood yet haha

I find it wild that there’s places in the world where you aren’t allowed to record a conversation without everyone’s consent

@mike Neither here nor there but you make wonder what it would do if you held a sheet of coloured cellophane in front of the camera

@vandys Here in Alberta 🇨🇦 at least, all property owners pay the education property tax. The rate is the same no matter where you are.

I don't think I'd want to live in a "55+ community" or something like that when I'm older. I don't see why I'd want to exclude the young whippersnappers.

@mike Oh, basic mode seems like a good selling point (weirdly enough)!

So many idioms are based on normal aspects of life when the expression was coined, but are still in use after that thing is no longer normal.

What are some expressions that you grew up with that made sense at the time, but your kids and grandkids will not understand without it being explained to them? "Stay tuned" comes to mind.

@jezza Aha, my comic-reading system brought me this just now. Very perfect.

TIL “lactose free” products—those ones with added lactase—are actually lactose free because the lactase did its thing before you drank it. I was unsure if that was the case or if the added lactase did the job when you consume it.

@jezza Bringing the idea of fanfic in is perfect. We need to copy and make derivative artwork to some extent to be creative!

How many Spiel des Jahres games have you played?

Do you ever fill out a captcha, fail, and think "oh, I interpreted the instructions too much like a computer would?"

@jezza I like that logic!

The funniest thing for me reading about this is that public art is un-photographable assuming the copyright hasn't expired in Greece (where no one takes pictures of anything less than 2000 years old) and also in lots of African and impoverished nations, where there's maybe one statue in the whole country.

Starting a list of weird rules that seem counterintuitive because after I learned that there's places in which it's illegal to record a conversation you are having without informing the other parties, now I'm learning that there's places where it's illegal to photograph public art. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_
