Remember when web development was fun? I wrote a fully functional e-commerce platform in maybe two thousand lines of Perl. CMS, user creation, talking to the credit card processor, everything. I named it Cartman, ostensibly short for "shopping cart manager," to date myself. It was entirely usable with a 90s-era PC and dial-up internet.

Sounds better than having xcart dropped in my lap. 10,000 smarty templates alone in the 00s/10s I think that's why was refreshing, there's plenty of room for innovation of new tech with purposeful limits its just that dev demographic skill set is very different from the 90s, maybe drop an idea to the guys as for and makes my head hurt, both are powerful but the learning curve is about as easy as holding still while someone whacks a 2x4 at your shins.
