@verita84
How were you hosting it? What kind of system were you using?
@souldessin@noagendasocial.com
Raspberry PI 4, 8 GB. It runs everything well except Nextcloud. I blame PHP
@verita84
Yeah, the processor on those are ok, but not the best for larger things. Old laptops still have more punch.
@souldessin@noagendasocial.com
Yeah and refurbished x86 boxes are cheaper and more powerful on Amazon now than that shitty Pi
@verita84
And an old laptop has a built in UPS.
@souldessin@noagendasocial.com
True...but let if you keep a laptop on, you have to worry about battery swelling....that is an issue with MacBooks I found
@verita84
Old business Dells, ThinkPads, and HPs have always been fine for me. I've never had that issue. And when the batteries finally die, they are on the order of $15 to replace.
Refurbished/off-lease are so cheap, too.
@souldessin@noagendasocial.com
Ah. I know that Linux runs well on older hardware but what about Windows? Is it worth buying a license for older thinkpads? I want to go the used Thinkpad route in the future
@verita84
Any refurbished laptop will come with windows 10 installed. Even if it was for windows 7 originally. I sold them for a while.

Performance was bad.
Buggy mobile apps
Slow web gui
Always having sync conflicts
