If it's a big trip, I take pics/screenshots of maps beforehand.
If it's a small venture, I memorize streets AND distances. Very critical to remember the latter or the former means nothing.

Fun fact: the last time I depended on Google maps, I lost reception at one point and it responded out loud with "you're on your own now".
Never. Again.
@lucifargundam @lynne @kolya fortunately, unlike Google Maps, OSMAnd always downloads the maps, so they work offline with no issues
