When it comes time to take advice about how to draft such legislation, politicians always (finally) realise how unworkable and bad an idea it is.
But the kind of politician who proposes it in the first place is not the kind to learns from other people's past failed attempts, so it keeps coming back every few years in different places.

Encryption is heavily interwoven with our current everyday technology. We depend on encryption for everything- from credit card transactions, web browsing, to emails and product licensing keys for software and services.
Outlawing encryption is one of the most stupid ideas to still be spun around by bureaucracy.
