#Gardening bubble, I need some tips. I'm thinking about creating a #wildflower #meadow with native plants in this part of the garden. Can I have some suggestions on what to prepare before sowing? Do I need to dig up the whole area? cover the area with fresh earth or #compost?

It's a pretty dark area: eastern side of the house, under a large gingko tree. The roots are close to the surface, so breaking up the whole soil will not be easy.

zone 7b, sandy soil, thin toplayer.

I left the leaves lying there in the hope that it brings some nutrients into the soil and maybe it'll help remove the grass and moss that's currently growing there. Does that make any sense?

@lizzard. Leaves are great nutrients. Consider adding them every season. #compost.

As a tree owner, I can verify that yes-

1) they kill the ground they pile on if left unchecked.
2) they make decent potting mulch

That being said, I usually avoid letting them kill the sod. If enough pile up, I usually prepare a pyromaniac ritual.
