@lupyuen One of those, dam if you do, and dam if you do not, IT situations.

I do understand their point:

In conclusion, we students are unhappy that the MOE requires such a program to be installed on our PLDs, be it our personal ones or ones purchased from the school, due to how little control, freedom, and privacy we have. This may also put many students information and data at risk to hackers, as they can easily access the data if such program is breached.

@aton So therefore the govt should treat Student Laptops just like Employee Laptops ... If the govt wants to install Device Mgmt, they should buy every student a new laptop 🤔

@lupyuen

It is a hard call; I have been there supporting campus networks, students can bring in anything and get through most all internal protection.

Look, I get what the students are saying. I support them, perhaps dual-boot, school-controlled, student-controlled, or better yet Qubes OS?

Thought control and spying is not limited to students computers, have you been on campus lately?

@aton Haha I'm so glad I'm not on campus any more ... So sad that this generation of students will have to be tracked with TraceTogether Tokens 😉

I'm just being pragmatic ... I lived with 2 laptops throughout my IT career ... The Windows laptop for office stuff, the MacBook for serious coding.

It's very hard to do everything on a single laptop and keep it secure (and stable).

@lupyuen

Separating your life, work, non-work, and school, is sad.

But that is where we are, never being whole, never completely authentic, makes us less, I think.
