AirTag: "The Find My network is approaching a billion Apple devices and can detect signals from a lost AirTag and relay the location back to its owner, all in the background, anonymously and privately"

@lupyuen Meanwhile #Tile / #Trackr have become more and more of a #privacy nightmare, demanding always on location tracking on your phone before they'll even let you look for your beacon.

Sadly though, I have yet to find anything vaguely open that will actually play a sound in a similar way in #BLE land. I wonder if #LoRa could be shoehorned into a beacon that could play a sound and roughly estimate distance away...?

Yikes, I didn't know that. Burn it with fire.

@Sophistifunk @lupyuen

Lol. Pretty much did. Mine fell out my car door without me realizing. I ran it over a few times before I found it. I decided not to replace it until I find something more privacy friendly.

I would gladly pay $100 each for something that just 1) used all FOSS 2) made a sound when I push a button on my web browser and 3) showed me the signal strength on a phone so I could track it down.

I'd even consider it just for point 1+2 if it was loud enough.
