"Japanese lickable TV screen imitates food flavours, creating multisensory viewing experience"

@lupyuen
I dont get it, tongue can taste only 4 flavors: sugar, salt, acid, sour. The rest is through the nose.

@holl - The tongue tastes (at least) six flavours: Sweet, bitter, sour, salty, umami and fatty.

@vattuvarg @holl @lupyuen Fatty? Isn't that a function of touch, and feeling viscosity and texture, rather than taste?

I mean, I'm no expert, but that's what I thought.

@Blort - That is exactly why it took so long to discover the fatty taste area.

Fast food and snack makers use compounds that trigger this area and have done so for years already. (A bit like monosodium glutamate is used for umami).
