"ASUS (Laptops) earned the highest Repairability grade ... followed by Acer"
https://www.theregister.com/2025/02/20/laptop_manufacturers_repairability/
@lupyuen is this the report? https://publicinterestnetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/PIRG-Failing-the-Fix-2025.pdf What the? There are no models, no dates, no information about disassembly, parts availability and documentation. I hope I'm just not finding the correct document.
Referencing documentation of the models that they can find in France (?) as part of the scoring, is so suspicious without actual model numbers that my initial gut is revolting.
@lupyuen this quote makes me doubt the validity of the claim in the article:
Consumers should choose products from manufacturers with the highest fixability grades using our scorecard, such as ASUS and Acer laptops and Apple cellphones. They should also prioritize manufacturers that have good track records with Right to Repair, such as Google.
Finding historical evidence contradicting this statement on all points is easy.
@lupyuen feels like poisoning the well attempt. At least with the information given and what I've managed to find trying to follow the sources listed.
@lupyuen sounds a lot like BS. I would like to read this report from end to end. Are those consumer grade or business grade laptops?
