Is it jut me that still emails pictures to themselves as I've not worked out a quicker way to get them from phone to desktop? 😒
@theyoctojester nice! I assumed I was just not as up with the cool tech as I get old.... 😄
@magicaltrout @theyoctojester
KDE Connect does a pretty good job connecting a phone to the desktop, tdrag/drop files, works even as a remote control for playing music or YT videos.
You could get a nextcloud account from someone like disroot.org, that way items saved to a cloud folder can be available on both desktop and mobile devices, or perhaps set up the same e-mail account on both devices so you can download from your desktop.
@magicaltrout this is where I’d make noises about Macs, but honestly AirDrop is so hit or miss for me anyway…
@magicaltrout there’s that Cloud thing all the kids were talking about … 20 years ago 🤣
@jadp pfft thanks old man!
I dunno, I feel like bluetooth, airdrop whatever for android should just be an easy way to get stuff from device to device without having to sync to the cloud
@magicaltrout true, both me being old 👴🏼 and being able to transfer over a personal area network [as we called it back in the day]. Even Palm could do this over BT PAN
@jadp Yeah, its not like the requirement is new. I just feel like there should be some form of cross mobile OS, cross desktop OS method of doing this that just works.
@magicaltrout compatibility among OS types has always been an issue. A mobile sftp would be nice with a UX like in shows: I point my phone at a target — your phone, a desktop/laptop, server, TV monitor, whatever, and swipe the file, photo, contact card, website, etc up and away and it is transferred. Easy peasy
@magicaltrout full disclosure: same here, until I switched to Apple, and now there's AirDrop.
