If you're driving a car on a busy, narrow city street and come up behind a few cyclists, please, please, please do not honk your horn "just to let them know you're there." Believe me, they're hyper aware you're there and will only take your honking to mean you're an asshole who at the very least wishes them ill will. Just hum along with the radio and follow patiently until you or they turn off or until you can safely pass. Thanks.

@brian_gettler This is a country specific thing. In NA I would tend to agree. I mostly cycle in Canada, and I perceive drivers using their horn as aggressive and impatient. When I ride in Italy, though, drivers would generally give a little peep of the horn to let you know they were there, and then would stay a safe distance back until they could safely pass. The difference may be length of horn sound (bip vs beeeeeeeeeep), or distance (a couple of car lengths vs on my rear tire), or both

@Plumbert @brian_gettler I live in Italy and here honking is as useless as anywhere else. You driving a car is the noisiest thing around. It's an annoyance already. No need to be even noisier.
