I don't know how much it's that this is a melancholic city snd that's rubbing off on me, or if I'm melancholy and seeing Venice with those eyes. It's probably a bit of both. But this week for me seemingly has a gentle but inexorable sadness to it that is sort of creeping through everything.

@JubalBarca I've had a similar experience and have found the conference much more welcoming. That is surely because I do computational stuff.

But I must say that working with eastern manuscripts is a niche to the ADHO crowd. I applied with work on one of the most important Cyrillic manuscripts in a year when there was supposedly focus on Southeast Europe, and the reviewers didn't even bother to update their reviews in the second round. Surely my experience is one off, but the quite good on paper process didn't seem to actually materialise in our case.
