Google earned $26.5B last quarter, a mere 27.5% profit margin, and they’re doing layoffs today and have a founder telling people they need to work 60 hour weeks.

Imagine having all the resources and talent you could ever ask for, just a tectonic amount of skill and infrastructure behind you in a world that looks like this one does, and having no idea what to do with any of that at all beyond making a line go up for people who don’t even work there.

It's so sad. It's just so god damn sad.

@mhoye seems to me companies that do layoffs while profitable (where profit > salaries of those let go) should be subject to some really exorbitant penalties

@aburka @mhoye you can't force them to work against their own will. If they don't want to keep talent, someone else will. Talent should also prove it's not some sort of dispensable working class, but unique people with creativity worth attracting on one's side.
