Google Photos is just a masterpiece of asshole design.
First there's a time bomb in each app version so the app will start to pester you to update, with gradually increasing annoyance. But that can be dismissed with the back button in a split second.
But, if you have cloud backups disabled, that takes it to a whole new level. This bottom shit (yes I'm calling it that) can't be dismissed with the back button. They actually have the audacity to try to force you to interact with it.
(Already imagining all the "you should really unlock your bootloader and install GrapheneOS/CyanogenMod/AOSP GSI ROM/Ubuntu" replies)
(Yes I know that Immich is a thing. But I'm not comfortable storing my photos on a rented server, and I don't have a server at home as of right now. I may try it sometime in the future.)
