@tristansnell
LBJ nailed it when he said "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

For me Signal is simply yet another FOSS service to be sustained because it's not sustained by advertising. To others, it is the only secure way to reveal criminal practices. It is certainly worth a small monthly donation

Just now noticed "financial flaws". Was not intended, but certainly fits well

Show thread

The other huge failure is that apparently the US is so lost in financial flaws that the whole country fails to find a better opponent to Trump than Biden. And this is regardless of how hard Biden continues to stumble at every step, literally and figuratively. The US holds on to its grumpy old men, afraid to move on to younger generations. A behaviour so typical for big money.

However, this dichotomy doesn't stand when we focus on the current war of Netanyahu vs Hamas. And this is what strongly undermines the image of the collective west. Fortunately, the failure of Biden, Macron and Scholz is very focused and is not so widespread across the free world.

First time I hear the phrase "west vs rest", but of course it is clear what stays behind it. Largely, this is a conflict between universally applicable law vs authoritarian order

As part of a new report on digital advertising as a security threat published today by @johnnyryan and me (iccl.ie/wp-content/uploads/202), and previously unreported:

We reveal 'Patternz', a global mass surveillance system that harvests digital advertising data on behalf of 'national security agencies'.

Patternz is operated by a company based in Israel and/or Singapore. It claims to collect data about 5 billion users from 87 ad exchanges and SSPs via 6 data centers around the world.

Since Hollywood's foray into TikTok is in the news, let's remember it is one of the most invasive apps on your phone. @KrauseFx showed that you don't actually leave TikTok when launching a website from the app, enabling TikTok to log all of your keystrokes

Russia remains one of the largest producers of enriched uranium in the world.

In 2022, US companies alone paid about $1 billion to Rosatom. Uranium is excluded from sanctions against Russia.

Excuse me for reposting:
We are conducting a study where we need to keep audio recordings of participant evaluations. Can anyone suggest how the voices in these recordings could be distorted so they could be anonymised? I thought it is an easy problem, but similar questions on several platforms remain unanswered. @dataGovernance @datasovereignty

Actually the worst part is that clearly Netanyahu and Hamas have been serving each other's interest in the past. A nihilist might say they are doing it now again

A scholarly reflection on what is the formal meaning of "genocide" and whether it is applicable in the current context. The simple conclusion is that (we can clearly call them extremist) leaders on both sides have declared genocidal intent, but only the Israeli government has the resources to put this intent to practice, and is in fact doing exactly that, regardless of tactical polemics.
