"We need to learn, or re-learn, how to build comradeship and solidarity instead of doing capital’s work for it by condemning and abusing each other. This doesn’t mean, of course, that we must always agree – on the contrary, we must create conditions where disagreement can take place without fear of exclusion and excommunication."

Looked into my 'many Europeans' statement, and I found the answer now: Europeans form around 15% of the world's richest 10%, so about 120 million European belong to that group. That's about 1/4 of Europeans.

I don't think this is getting the coverage it needs. Scottish government to require passivhaus standard for all new build homes. This is big. Really big. Growing out of lessons from the 70's oil crisis. Passivhaus buildings use very little energy to heat, or to cool. We've known how to do this for decades. It's gross negligence from all western governments that the same is not true of all new builds in the developed world.
Also, remember that #Elsevier owns #Mendeley, which it uses to collect data on you. #Zotero is #OpenSource and not run a by an EvilCorp.
See this blog by @eikofried and Robin Kok on Elsevier's #data extraction and collection practices.
Lots of reasons to ditch anything to do with Elsevier.

This is a very good thread, one that give me hope. Thank you.

Qazaqs know that the world would care little if russia attacked and genocided us, and we still stand with Ukraine. We know that we would share the fate of Chechens, Georgians, Syrians. We still stand with Ukraine.

In 2024, Paris will ban non-essential vehicle thru-traffic from its city center. The plan is expected to cut around half of daily car journeys thru the core. Residents, public transit, emergency vehicles, & people with disabilities will find it EASIER to move. Via @citylab

Yeah...
@peterweyand I usually don't talk that much about Trump vs. Biden, and you will find me criticizing Biden on several things...like his complete misunderstanding of Section 230, or his slowness to defend Gigi Sohn in the face of telecom astroturf attacks.
These days I will mostly kvetch about members of the GOP that are still in office, as well as some Dems, like Kathy Hochul (who also is willfully ignorant of Section 230 and the First Amendment).
@SexyCyborg 😰 I have heard. The vaccine over there isn't as effective as the mRNA type. Due to its technology as well as not being updated for the latest strains. It was a good thing that the draconian lockdowns have ended but that shouldn't mean throwing all public health measures out the window. And that entails planning and a government doing its part.
@Kclemson That's so fucking creepy.

"it appears that the previously missing link—the link between the fake elector scheme and Trump himself—is no longer missing. Trump not only ;participated' in the fake elector scheme, he orchestrated it."

Excellent piece from @mikejones and @bestqualitycrab for @theconversationau covering the funding issue with #Trove at the National Library of Australia (who I don't think are on Mastodon).
Trove is an #API, which I've demo'd before at places like VALA, which makes the NLA's collections easily query-able.
Trove is #digitalinfrastructure for #digitalhumanities, #socialscience, #archives, #museums and other #GLAM activities.
And it's invisible. Which means it doesn't attract the funding or attention it deserves. Trove archives over 6 billion digital items. Items which speak to Australia's #CulturalHeritage.
If Trove were a supercomputer, it would be funded. If our digitalhumanities were as sexy as #STEM, Trove would be funded. But they're the same type of thing - digital #infrastructure that helps research. Trove is #ResearchInfrastructure. And we should fund it properly.
It's not that we're all superstitious, it's that we literally cannot buy evidence-based medicine. The stores are all out, it's stolen from packages when we try to import it from abroad, and we can't get booster shots even a year after our last vaccination. People are desperate.

Rosalind Franklin’s research was crucial to discovering DNA’s double helix structure 🧬 but it was James Watson & Francis Crick who received the credit & Nobel Prize.
Unknown to Franklin, the pair saw her unpublished data & X-ray diffraction images, inspiring their famous model. They never acknowledged her contribution until after her death.
How many discoveries & innovations of #women do we attribute to the men who took credit for their ideas?

@mtsw To be fair, the difference between Nazi Germany and Twitter is that Musk is actually losing support, wealth, and advertisers in real time. Each new major mistake causes people to flee here, and given the rate of technical issues has increased I don't see that stopping. Plus the FTC and EU regulators are not happy, and Elon seems to be blowing them off.
That being said, I don't see Twitter surviving Elon, the months that follow are going to be weird, and any attempt to limit the damage to other things besides Twitter (and to get people over here) is a good thing.
(In case anyone asks, I have been on Mastodon since 2019 and completely left Twitter over a month ago after spending my last week telling people about here.)
It's pretty remarkable how much Elon's Twitter takeover is a textbook fascist takeover: leftists immediately purged, censorship regime imposed behind the scenes, secret police rooting out enemies, right wing terrorism supported by the state, etc and how uncannily similar the mainstream liberal response of pretending nothing is wrong is, even with *very low* costs of walking out the door and refusing to collaborate.
