A friend just messaged me asking if I had any advice on how to read news critically. I told him I didn't really know because I don't read news that much (although now I come to think of it, I end up reading news articles when I check the source of something posted online).

But we are curious, what are some answers to this question that yous can come up with? Looking at different perspectives is one. Others?

It is no surprise that Trump tried to further corrupt the DOJ and found an attorney within the Department who was radicalized enough to go along with his corruption. Thank you to all the other attorneys who threatened to resign in protest. I shudder to think what might have happened otherwise. At some point we'll stop hearing more horrific news about the Trump administration, but not until it's all discovered and prosecuted.

An update: Apparently the Signal for Android developers have made the cardinal mistake of distributed systems: trusting the network.

Which led for the app to become essentially unusable for some since they were DDoS‘ing their own servers after getting a 508 (“loop detected”) during the outage Signal suffered due to rising user numbers.

An update is being rushed to the Play Store.

@Gargron Polish gov is generally very supportive towards US GOP, and especially the diehard wing of it. I don't think it's anything more than a nice gesture to talk about in the Polish and US conservative media, although it's possible that it's going to be a way to secure social media fake news operations from Poland for the US market.

@Gargron I think the answer is not to give twitter some rules but to break their monopoly. Mastodon and other federated social networks are the answer.

It shouldn’t be political, Mr. Mullin. It’s about public health. But COVID denialism only exists in one party.

We need to recognize that refusal to wear a mask is not a joke anymore. It is an assault on others, putting their lives in danger. Actions need to be taken to protect those who are responsible citizens and quit giving these people who are a clear and present danger to others a pass.

But the very best #Fediverse client that supports multiple accounts, and multiple types of Fediverse servers, including #Friendica, #Pixelfed, #Peertube, #Pleroma, and others, without censorship or baked in crippleware like Tusky, has found it's lead developer and creator so incessantly harassed that he has just walked away from all of his social media accounts in the Fediverse.

#Fedilab alone is the Android app that is enjoying overwhelming use and adoption by those who are disgusted and disenchanted with all of the vitriolic cacophany that permeates the timelines of those monolithic silos over at #Faceplant and #Twatter and #InstaSPAM, among others, and now those same despicable, hateful individuals that have turned those sites into cesspits of hatred and ad hominem have driven Fedilab's developer from the Fediverse in that same kind of disgust.

Just came across about #Fedilab issue from Tom. It's really sad to hear, how the community react to developers who spent countless hours for making users life easier and in return they get that kind of insults and threats. Unacceptable and not appreciated at all.

I have my sincere wishes with Tom for whatever he undertake and hope he find something useful, where at least there is respect.
