I suppose what I mean when I say this social.bau-ha.us/@LydiaConwell is:

If shuffling on a media player was anywhere close to random you wouldn't expect to frequently hear the same songs. So I think what I really want to know is:

Why is computer randomisation so bad?

Please answer as if you are talking to a simpleton who knows nothing.

Hi Lydia,

"Why is computer randomization so bad?"
Told you before; it depends on the algorithm.
Try search "random algorithm"

"Please answer as if..."
Install another media player. 🎧

Just curious: You're using Windows? 🙊

@mc @LydiaConwell ☝️☝️ This. Randomization is software, so some algos are better than others.

But some music randomization is probably governed by the companies making the player. They likely see more usage when songs are a little less random.

So, that was how I got to meet "the admin of this instance".
Nice place. Congratulations.
(I like the QOTO User Count.)

@LydiaConwell

@rizzn Ya ... I actually never thought of that. It did occur to me with things like spotify that there might be some songs that are free or cheaper to play so they might get played more.

@mc Thanks. I'll look up random algorithms.

I do use Windows but it is something that I've noticed on lots of things including stereo systems. Mainly I listen to music from my iPod.

@LydiaConwell
iPod, you say? Please address your complaints to Apple(TM). 😅
Four books published? That's something. 👍
