Oh hell yeah. @mozilla is launching a Mastodon instance in early 2023! I’m very excited for this. Mozilla is really good at what they do. Firefox has over 200M monthly active users, and with any luck they’ll build better support for the fediverse into Firefox itself. More & more convinced that making key public goods - transport, waste, health, education, social media, energy etc - non-profit commons may be the most important climate strategy of all.

With privatisation shareholder profit determines all the decisions & policies of these providers - not what is best for planet & people. If we as a society agree that these should just be realms for the common good, not for profit, then sustainable policies can be adopted swiftly, at every level

La guerra dei grandi social network contro i link è piuttosto inquietante. Twitter che per qualche ora bandisce i link ad altri social, Facebook che ti penalizza se metti link nei post e te li fa spostare nel primo commento, Instagram che li proibisce proprio tranne quello in bio… I link erano il fulcro del Web 1.0, per il Web 2.0 sono vestigia da eliminare? Ma è come tornare indietro alla logica dei canali televisivi; addio ipertesto, bentornata TV Sorrisi & Canzoni.

Nel Governo senza ministro per il Digitale, il sottosegretario propone di “spegnere” #SPID perché “non ha fatto breccia presso gli over 80” per sostituirlo con la Carta di Identità Elettronica.

SPID funziona, ha quasi 30 milioni utenti attivi, non è perfetto e può certamente essere migliorato. Sostituirlo con la CIE aprirebbe nuovi problemi. L’assurda motivazione e il linguaggio retrogrado rivelano quanto questo governo non capisca il digitale e insegua il passato.

Musk is demonstrating that he can extort censorship from the media with the ban hammer. Taylor was targeted to be an example. Other journalists are put on notice it's not them...this time, and reminded to toe the line. This is about press freedom. That's why we all should care.
