@theexplorographer Well, your experience may vary. I have found both hashtags and asking people to boost works. For example, my original post has already been boosted almost 800 times today. The goal is the same: to get it to appear on more people's timelines. But yes, I do agree that teaching people how hashtags work on Mastodon is very important.
