Do you ever mind having a fedi post you've made linked to in a non-controversial thread?

I default to asking for permission but the friction there + limited time = that I don't link to nearly as many interesting/cool posts as I'd like to.

Caveats in thread.

So the result here is that of the people who actually voted, the overwhelming majority of people who saw this poll are fine with having their posts (politely) linked to/quote-posted, and a few people *really* don't want to be.

Right now there's no consistent way to indicate this preference. So you ask every time just in case, or you kind of squint and guess about when to ask, or you just go ahead without asking and ignore that there's a small segment of fedi that has a really different norm.

@kissane The public/unlisted nature of a post seems, to me, a good indication of whether the author want to have a conversation as wide as possible or if she/he makes a public statement with no intent to have a wider reach. Am I missing the point of this feature?
