PSA: encrypting direct messages using the "#Signal Protocol" or any other serious cryptographic protocol is totally useless if the software you are using to read those direct messages is a web page.
Thank you for your attention.
Also, the Signal Protocol does not implement multi-device/multi-session, so have fun with that.
On Nov. 22, the #USDoD released their Zero Trust Strategy, a new approach to countering #cyberattacks. The new framework employs a “‘never trust, always verify’” mindset, deviating from the Defense Department’s previously used perimeter defense model. The strategy is prompted by the “rapid growth” of offensive cyber threats and aims to fully implement the department-wide model by fiscal year 2027.

The people in the neighborhood wanted a bridge over the creek. The city had no funding for #PedestrianInfrastructure for something like that. But they did get an #art grant, so they hired an artist to create an art installation that would span the creek that people could walk on. I frequently walk my dogs along this creek and yes, over the bridge sometimes.

If you've never had to pay much attention to how other people treat you online (and I hate to generalise, but I'm going to guess that - if that's the case - you may be able-bodied white CIS man with certain immigration status) then maybe you don't have much insight into all the hidden labour that others have to do to minimise exposure to unsafe behaviours.
And there is, let me tell you, a *lot* of hidden labour.
Hi hi hello *please can you fill out your bio with _some_ information about yourself*, esp if you are man who likes to regularly drop into people's mentions and messages AND you have a non-real name username.
Not being able to see people's social graph on here makes it very difficult to situate people in context, esp when they don't explain who they are.

Glad to see Sarah Maslin Nir ask #homeless mentally ill people in subways and streets for their reaction to #NYC Mayor Adams’ declared plan for police roundups to hospitals [which are full up]. In an interview today, the former head of #Twitter Trust and Safety said: "Trust and safety is an adaptive space."
In plain English, I would say it this way: "The bad guys are always going to try be at least one step ahead of you, and if you only can react you're going to keep losing the battle of trust and safety for your users."
Really excited to see this new Jigsaw site summarizing so much good work on prevention of misinformation, hate speech & violent extremism, incl terrific explanations of what the Polarization & Extremism Research & Innovation Lab (PERIL) have learned in our partnership about prebunking & the use of short form video based inoculation - which is effective in every test we have done, across multiple forms of ideology & propaganda & multiple lengths of video. https://interventions.withgoogle.com/
#MaunaLoa Telescope update!
The ATLAS units have been shut down finally and people have left. The picture below was taken by one of those folks.
The power is out, it's possible the power lines were taken out by lava. It will be a while before people can go back and check on material.
Until then ATLAS still has 3 units across the globe to detect any potentially dangerous asteroids that could hit earth!
So we stay safe from the sky whilst we admire the power of mother Earth 🙏 🌋

While institutions are incorporated to live beyond the lifetime of a single human being, perhaps fulfilling its mission can lead to a conclusion that the best course is to wind itself down. Courage at the #IveyFoundation , led by #BruceLourie
> One of Canada’s largest and oldest philanthropic organizations has decided to wind down and distribute its entire endowment – $100-million – to expedite efforts to align the economy with net-zero emission targets.
> The Ivey Foundation has determined that the need to transform industrial policies to meet climate goals is too acute to keep funding projects at its current rate, said Bruce Lourie, the foundation’s chief executive officer. The money will be dispersed to its slate of economic and environmental partner organizations over the next five years.
> Dr. Lourie said slashing carbon emissions by 40 per cent to 45 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030 and getting to net zero by 2050, as per Ottawa’s international commitments, are only getting tougher to achieve. [....]
> From the foundation’s perspective, the two biggest risks facing the country are failing to adequately deal with climate change and missing related economic opportunities, such as electric vehicle and battery manufacturing and transforming the power grid, as other countries establish dominance in those areas. “So, in our philanthropic work, we’re really trying to integrate those two things – Canada’s competitiveness and prosperousness, together with the need to address our emissions,” Dr. Lourie said.
