Blue oyster mushrooms are a cold weather strain that prefers temperatures between 12 to 17 C (54 to 63 F) for fruiting.

When you grow blue oysters within this temperature range, they’ll properly form and their caps will have a nice blue color.

While you can grow blue oysters at higher temperatures, their color becomes a lighter blue or grey color which may be less desirable.

They may also grow a bit misshapen at higher temperatures.

@bloodravenlib hi! I've never been to college in the US, only in France 20+ years ago, so I feel a bit disconnected (but very concerned because I have a teenager going to college next year). What's the obvious trend you're seeing?

A combination of ignorance, hatred, and lack of critical thinking in the same person is a dangerous combination even though each of these traits alone is common and widely dismissed as being no big deal. And these have nothing to do with a lack of empathy or good intentions!

@kevinbowen mushroom cultivation gets technical really fast. For what it's worth, I own "The Mushroom Cultivator" by Stamets and Chilton which has good info on what to expect. If you ever want to get deeper into this, I'd recommend what I didn't do which is to take a hands-on class with mushroom growers rather than rely only on theory or online forums.

@avsm my 4th grade class photo from 1986-1987 was also in black and white, which was weird, not artsy in any way.
