"Under US pressure, social media companies censor critical content and suspend Venezuelan, Iranian, and Syrian accounts"
@freemo On the bright side, once it is spinning it will keep going.
I like the space station idea, specifically gravity by centrifugal force... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXIDFx74aSY
@amolith@masto.nixnet.xyz @kev I'm more concerned with Clouflare's dominance (~75% of high-traffic websites on internet) regarding caching HTTPS in exchange for website owners private keys (in effect silently compromising all visitors to said sites as well). After digging into https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloudbleed and the technical solution at Cloudflare making this security bug possible, along with their transparency (https://www.cloudflare.com/transparency/), it became apparent that this is the biggest orchestrated HTTPS weakness out there serving US government.
Looks interesting, especially the embargo part. https://seclists.org/oss-sec/2019/q4/122
@bkhl That would be nice. BTW: It's 2019 and some web browser (eg. webkit) still don't support fixed fonts properly.
@amolith@masto.nixnet.xyz @schlink I kind of liked the old BBS/board sysop (and node-to-node) chats where each key was echoed instantly over the serial line. A "live edit" feeling with for example profanity showing up first then deleted into something less provocative.
@loke I've been tempted to become a paying user during ProtonMail "Black Friday sale" but my train of thought always ends up with doubts about security when dealing with any centralized service, it's a convenient target.
Sure, I pay for several services on the web, but they don't claim to be secure, or at least it's not their main selling point. Besides, storing the private PGP keys in the web/cloud (someone else computer)? Nah...don't think so...
The constant desire for the GNOME developers to remove useful features never cease to amaze me.
In the latest version, you can no longer set a solid colour as background. You can only choose images.
Seriously? You can even see it in the screenshot here, so it's not just me that's doing something wrong: https://help.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.34/#settings-background-panel
"Chris Hedges talks to author Stephen Kinzer about the CIA’s quest for mind control through its experiments in drug and torture during the 1950s and 1960s, both domestically and internationally. Kinzer’s new book is titled Poisoner in Chief: Sidney Gottlieb and the CIA Search for Mind Control."
@bkhl @amolith@masto.nixnet.xyz "None of my colleagues wear a tie at all"... Damned hippies. ;)
"Host Chris Hedges talks to activist Christine See and Rory Varrato of Extinction Rebellion about the upcoming non-violent, disruptive civil disobedience events during the week of October 7 in cities across the world. Protesters demand an end to the corporate control of the political and economic systems that they claim are leaving us all unprepared for a future of climate emergency." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5hAKcDxf8c
