apparently, Norwegian doctors have been prescribing Ozempic for obesity instead of diabetes like there's no tomorrow.
they're allowed to prescribe it for that, except they've been prescribing it "blue" instead of "white", meaning that the government covers most of the cost, which is not allowed unless it's for treating a serious illness.
for treating obesity, Ozempic is sold under the brand name Wegowy, and it's very expensive because the patient has to cover the full cost.
the estimated budget for Ozempic was 21 million NOK, but since 2019, the government spent 1.5 billion NOK on it.
it's not even all that good at treating obesity. better than other drugs on the market, yes, but it's much better at treating diabetes type 2, with weight loss as a possible side effect.
