This is your regular reminder that I do not come online to be misgendered at a practical or conceptual level.
@r It won't load for me but here's my take.

The issue wasn't to do with pronouns, I will use the pronouns that person tells me to use if I'm not sure how to address them.

The issue was how I don't see 'trans' women as 'real' women. This wouldn't have been a problem had I not said anything. An abridged take on the matter was, and I quote, "If the trans identity was removed then you [would] lose your special status, and the LGBT community would go apeshit".

I'm all for respecting those that deserve it. I will not, however, buy into the idea that people who wish to emulate what they're not are what they think they are.

The article is more or less an analysis of why pronouns became part of the language. We as human try to classify things into different categories, mostly based on their representation, to reduce the "cognitive load". Expecting others to remember your pronoun thus defeats the purpose of having pronouns in the first place.
@r @thatbrickster the purpose of the pronoun is to help you indicate who you're referring to in conversation without using someone's name. You need to remember someone's gender to do that anyway.
@cantinto @thatbrickster Which is why I prefer gender less pronouns. But at the same time, I think pronouns don't matter when you're online. I wouldn't mind if someone calls me a "he", even though I would prefer to be called a "she", because it doesn't matter. My identity is what I am, not what some stranger thinks I am.

Then do not listen?

Natural languages are a complete mess, it's hard enough to communicate with them and focusing on the pointless cruft is not helping. From that point of view, people who take offense in misused pronouns are the same as people who deliberately misuse pronouns to offend, and both are in the same league as those who otherwise eagerly ignore such things as context, circumstance or intent (which I guess can be summarized in one word as meaning) to suit their needs.
