I didn't mean to imply you don't care about foss, I'm just being pedantic regarding the not eating memory condition on proprietary software. I couldn't help it even though it was in parentheses.

Regarding paranoia, even with foss you can't individually audit every piece of software you are using, so you're still mostly trusting it to do its best. The difference is that it's reasonable to trust foss, and it's unreasonable to trust proprietary software. Again you don't need to trust it if you unconditionally don't care what it's doing in a given context. I don't care if sugar and fat is bad for me, I'm still going to stress eat waffles. If someone else does and is on a strict healthy diet, they are not paranoid, they are just a better than me in that particular aspect of life.
