The Auschwitz Museum, citing Russia's ongoing assault on #Ukraine, chose not to invite #Russian representatives to their official ceremony Friday marking the day that the then-Soviet Union's Red Army liberated prisoners at the #Auschwitz #Nazi death camp.

"Russia will need an extremely long time and very deep self-examination after this conflict in order to return to gatherings of the civilized world," Piotr Sawicki, a spokesman for the museum, said.

Have a stellar #HubbleFriday!

This week's image shows the bright star V 372 Orionis, along with a smaller companion star in the upper left.

Both stars call the Orion Nebula home – which is a massive region of starbirth about 1,450 light-years away: go.nasa.gov/3DkX6zq

There should be no limit to the immediate support the civilized world gives to the victims of genocide perpetrated by brainwashed barbarians.

Today, on Holocaust Memorial Day, I'm thinking about this little boy, the same age as my kids, proudly showing a flower to another child, outside a gas chamber at Auschwitz, where they were all murdered moments later. It is so important for us all to remember what happened.

@dungeons Maybe some people aren't aware that our guy is a PALADIN who wouldn't just attack a random commoner...?

More bad news for Russians and their global terror binge.

On January 27th, International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust. This tragedy resulted in the death of 6 million European Jews, with 1.5 million of them being killed on the territory of Ukraine. Most of the Ukrainian Jews were killed in mass shootings, making Babyn Yar in Kyiv a symbol of genocide in Ukraine. This day serves as a reminder of the dangers of hatred, bigotry, racism, and prejudice, and is an opportunity for the international community to reflect on the concept of collective security in today's globalized world. We must all work together to ensure that tragedies like the Holocaust never happen again.

Countless of people are having to flee because of the climate crisis. The time to act is now. We need to get informed, speak up on climate justice and migrant justice, and support vital organizations like IOM. The Greta Thunberg Foundation supports their important work with people displaced by the climate crisis in Pakistan & Somalia.
IOM is helping people to find a way to stay, adapt and move when there is no other option. You can also support IOM here: t.co/dCeTmVQryX

I know it's vain, but I do notice likes on drawings I post. I don't expect any comments (what's anyone supposed to say to a drawing anyway?), so the likes/favs at least show that some people have been reached and then felt inclined to show their appreciation.

@filippo The problem as I see it is that the first people who truly jumped ship, abandoning twitter completely years ago, were the most politically extreme and personally oddball, and now they feel that they are the real mastodon users and the rest are johnny-come-lately posers. (I opened an account on masto when it was quite new, but there wasn't enough network effect to keep me here until Recent Events.) We on twitter heard about ridiculously overblown personal dramas on masto every now and then between these most hardcore original users and it didn't encourage us to jump in. And now that we're here, they're not happy to be reminded that most people see many features as pretty desirable with some drawbacks rather than absolutely horrifically unthinkable. I don't see a general satisfactory answer to this culture clash - the hardcore aren't wrong to want what they want, and I don't want to advocate for a purely numeric approach where whatever the largest faction wants trumps all other concerns. But I do think there are some people who need to realize that what they want is either not to be on a social media platform in the first place, or to abolish the NSA, which is a bit out of scope.
