I was starting to warm up to chatGPT as a code assistant, and then today I asked it a question about the Mastodon API and it kept giving me wildly different answers every time I regenerated the response. Did it 9 times and each time it was different, and always looked plausible.
But when I wrote a quick test in VS Code, none of them worked! One went into an infinite loop and crashed after exhausting the call stack. Fun!
So chatGPT doesn’t only hallucinate about people.

@Pat Yeah but if you read the article, they have saved many lives with notices and information on Twitter.
@bp Unfortunately, I no longer know of any. I used to a very long time ago, but not since a few decades.
@bp It's been all over the press for months and all over Twitter as well. You'd think their IT departments would be at least aware.
The Verge: Disaster alert accounts are preparing for a world after Twitter
https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/21/23691784/elon-musk-twitter-disaster-alert-accounts-fire-storm-tsunami-earthquake
There is going to be a real cost to Elon Musk fucking everything up. But that is what happens when you rely on services like Twitter and don't control your own data or data flow. Why they don't make the move *now* to migrate over to Mastodon is flabbergasting.
