After about a week on Mastodon, observations: much quieter than Twitter. Almost stress free. Federated feed should probably be avoided. Just mute what you don't like. You'll probably never see that person again. Engagement related to follower count is unusually high. Picking up followers much faster than I did when I first went on Twitter in 2011. #twitter

@ColleenDoran Engagement is higher because an algorithm isn't deciding who sees you. Everything comes chronologically, the user chooses the curation: your local instance, federated, or your follows. No preferential treatment means little pressure to artificially inflate your account numbers to trick the algorithm.
