Slowly reading through the "Getting Started" pages for Godot and have been quite impressed so far, not being floored by a Soul-Crushing Firehose of Information. No 20GB download or fiddling around with yet another online service just to write a minimal "Hello World" project. This system still seems tractable and sane at this point. Weird.

@arclight Godot has its quirks, but is definitely easy to get “something” functional up and running quickly.

@nullifidian I cannot remember anything of the example project I did in Unity and I have serious doubts that I could even open that project today. Unity never made sense the way Godot makes sense to me (I say after an hour of tutorial...) Still, it's been a pleasant enough experience so far and I like their explanation for why they wrote their own DSL ("we started using Python, then switched to Lua, and getting those languages to do what we needed was at least as much effort as rolling our own language.")

@arclight As an aficionado of old-skool 2D pixelated shenanigans, Unity was horrible to work with (or against, as it felt like).
