I don’t really post much to HN, but I felt like its audience doesn’t have the best grasp of their censorious and petty moderation culture, as they do a good job of presenting a calm, balanced tone when describing their own activities. So I posted a link to a toot that describes an absolutely over-the-top petty response. I will bet that this gets nuked within minutes, and I will be positively impressed with their restraint if not: news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3

@glyph Just my opinion but I personally find HN to be toxic across several important axes.

I personally prefer @lobsters for this kind of technical community.

@feoh @lobsters very much agreed but HN is a culture-defining institution and Lobsters is a niche hobbyist site. On alexa, HN is in the ~2000 range and lobsters is in the 200,000-300,000 range. Just not in the same ballpark.

@glyph @feoh @lobsters the size is the point. Keeping obnoxious behavior out of a site the size of HN is next to impossible.
