@SirTapTap @olives There are actually surge of JP artists and users moving to Misskey from April to June before Twitter changing to X.

But most artists I followed either not joining Fediverse at all or abandon after a few posts (either because of official instances locking registration and they think they broke, too difficult to use, lack of users there,...).

@SirTapTap @olives Also there are studies showing that two third of popuation in OECD countries have level 1 or below digital skills, and given that Fediverse platforms such as Mastodon or Misskey aren't very familar to most people using centralized platforms, I think there will still people still using Twitter because they lack skills to change to another platforms and aversion to change (Branding and policy changes are still better than a whole platform change for most people).

I'm not surprised there is a surge there in April. It fits very well with my hypothesis.

It's a shame that some are abandoning it, perhaps more could be done to make the fediverse more welcoming.

@olives @SirTapTap I think that current Fediverse platforms' situation of paradox of choice is even worse than Linux distros as difference between distros are much and much less due to desktop environments, while choosing a Fediverse instance also affect your visibility, culture and people you meet, difficulty when using, moderation policies,...

@olives @SirTapTap I think that Fediverse platforms should have a feature where an instance can suggest and redirect users to one of that instance's "suggested instances" to register, optionally maybe with additional questions to find instance most suitable to users instead of showing all kinds of instamces from the start which can be confusing. That also improve decentralization and server load as well.

@olives @SirTapTap Some smaller Fediverse platforms such as Fedibird of Pixelfed actually do have relay servers which can be used to improve smaller instances' visibility and easier to search for instances/content/account and improve server load. Idk why larger Fediverse platforms such as Mastodon or Misskey didn't adopt it, although most of the time federating with relay servers is opt-in.
