The U.K. Government Is Very Close To Eroding Encryption Worldwide
"The U.K. Parliament is pushing ahead with a sprawling internet regulation bill that will, among other things, undermine the privacy of people around the world. The Online Safety Bill, now at the final stage before passage in the House of Lords, gives the British government the ability to force backdoors into messaging services, which will destroy end-to-end encryption. No amendments have been accepted that would mitigate the bill’s most dangerous elements. "

Today The #UK Parliament Undermined The #Privacy, #Security, And #Freedom Of All Internet Users
"The U.K. Parliament has passed the Online Safety Bill (OSB), which says it will make the U.K. “the safest place” in the world to be online. In reality, the OSB will lead to a much more censored, locked-down internet for British users. The bill could empower the government to undermine not just the privacy and security of U.K. residents, but #internet users worldwide."

@kkarhan @autonomysolidarity @eff The language in this one is so tortured that it's not clear it can pass judicial review (hopefully not).
The only other options would be to rely on the ECHR, or for them to repeal it.
@kkarhan @autonomysolidarity @eff Well, hopefully the bill can fall via one of these routes. That is the ideal.
But, yeah, you can probably do that.
The U.K. left the E.U. but not the ECHR (European Convention on Human Rights).
Their politicians threatened to a few times a couple of years ago (because they wanted to deport migrants to Rwanda where there were concerns they might be treated inhumanely).
However, their "reform proposals" were overwhelmingly unpopular. I think something like 90% of the populace disagreed with them in one poll.
@olives @autonomysolidarity @eff The #UK made it clear that it doesn't want to follow the #ECHR, which is why it got a #NoDealBrexit in the end.
After all, even #Switzerland and #Liechtenstein follow the #ECHR...
@olives @autonomysolidarity @eff As always, that's #NotLegalAdvice and since the #UK isn't in the #EU nor #EFTA it's perfectly legal for someone like me from #Germany to just #Geoblock the #UK or it's #LEA's entirely...
After all their juristiction ends at their national borders...
