Closing Steam and booting Minecraft. I need more RAM if I want to run both comfortably. :P
ATM9 is a heavy modpack.

@olives@qoto.org The answer depends on the point of reference... changed a lot compared to what/when?

@olives@qoto.org Mmm. I actually don't really keep track of what vanilla Minecraft has to offer, since I'm heavily into modpacks. But modpack-wise... yes. Some mods surprise me with how gorgeous some things can be. Great worldgen and such.

1.7.10 was the peak of Minecraft quite a few years ago. After that... it was hazy. 1.12 wasn't bad but limited in mods. 1.16 thereabouts was ok too. And now we have 1.20 which impresses me again. Some mods are returning like EnderIO (Still being ported over and not all features are there yet).

The major mods are still around, like Botania, Thermal series, Refined Storage/AE2.. Lately Create is being over-used in modpacks which annoys me. But if you're totally into moving gears and real conveyor belts and such, you'll love it.

And then there are forks or derivations of other known mods like Storage Drawers and Carpenter Blocks.. they're Functional Storage/Sophisticated Storage, and uh.. what's that name again.. Framed Blocks. So there's alternatives from the mods of yore now which improves in the playing experience.

The modpacks are getting bigger, so the requirements are heavier. I'd say from 1.18 onwards it's interesting again modpacks-wise. FTB Inferno comes to mind for 1.18. All The Mods 9 is 1.20 and is what I'm playing now. Great worldgen in ATM9, though the Nether could use more biomes but apparently the ATM-crew had bad experience with this.

Did a FTB Legend of the Eyes (1.19.2) with a buddy a while ago and finished it, it was an adventure pack with big bosses. And there's a hype not long ago, not sure if that's still being hyped as I don't really follow it, which is Vault Hunters (1.18.2) which is a lot of fun too if you can play with friends. (If you do that one, I recommend the skyblock start since you can vault almost immediately in there instead of finding the goddamn resources first which is a chore. :P)

Uhh, this is the stuff off top of my head with this broad topic. Lemme know if you have more questions.
