@wildebest I like Signal as far as privacy is concerned but it has quite a few flaws, such as the phone number requirement.

In theory, the Signal protocol is a separate thing from Signal the app / service, although it's not federated.

And yeah, I would be wary of centralizing so much on one particular "instance", as it were.
