I suspect it's prevalent because it's very convenient for a user to just scroll down a bit more and to see content pop right in (although, it has a problem with it being easy to lose your place).

For all the talk of endless scrolling being bad, doesn't Mastodon also have endless scrolling?

Okay, there might be less content to populate that feed than on a much larger site, however, it's still the same bit of functionality?

The resemblance to Matara is striking.

Ylva just keeps making the situation worse for herself.

She started off with an arrangement which allows for "voluntary" scanning, however, she keeps pushing and more and more people respond to her by filing lawsuits.

reclaimthenet.org/child-abuse- Child abuse survivor sues Facebook for violating their privacy by scanning their messages.

The statute which allows them to do so might be unlawful under the E.U.'s Constitution, the Charter of Fundamental Rights.

One of the rights protected by the Charter is the right to privacy.

reason.com/2023/07/26/hunter-b A very American civil rights scandal, lol.

It is kind of arbitrary, yes.

If it's already legal to buy, I don't see why consuming cannabis should make much of a difference (although, he seems to have been consuming a harder drug).

I never thought I'd see a post suggesting that the holodeck would probably lead to a decrease in sex crimes.

That makes a lot of sense, although it's not really what I typically think of when imagining a sci-fi world.

It was a fairly borderline case, and over something he probably bought in the... 80s...?

But, then, the bird site has a way with scandal.

Makes more sense, if you remember that it's referred to as "the federation", lol.

While the other ones were also interesting, you'd sit there, and be like, oh cool, it's a Borg episode.

Show thread

The Borg are the best part of Star Trek though, lol.

"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."
Threads and co even fit the Borg's distinctive phrase, lol.

Life in the United Federation of Planets here continues. But, will the federation come under siege by... The Borg...?

@ceoln I haven't, although to be fair, people are probably preoccupied by the nightmarish privacy / security implications.

Saw Rurouni Kenshin on my feed and it was... Actually normal content.

If this was the gossipy bird site, I have no doubt I'd see more people complaining about the Rurouni Kenshin guy.

A bit less toxicity.

Apparently, Techdirt was removed from Bing until Mike posted a blog post about it, it blew up, and they quietly added it back.

Ugh...

What's interesting about this is how there was so much less friction, and more freedom, for all kinds of things... Right up until 9/11.

Ugh... That ruined a lot.
