It doesn't make much of a difference how long it takes to process it, so long as it isn't perceptible to humans.

Well, let's not get that far ahead of myself, first build an implementation which actually works properly (which it seems that other one doesn't).
That'll be a good small goal.

For something like a configuration file, it has to be something very obvious and straightforward and easy to use, otherwise it's going to be a hassle to fiddle with.
toml gets the job done.
You know what, I've always wanted to use toml. You know toml? It's a very pretty language. Let's do that for config.
For now, let's compete with that random implementation written in Go.
Go developers tend to be a bit sloppy in their resource management (they waste a lot of it), so there might be some fruit to grow there.
I might experiment with a few stacks to see what works best.

As a security wonk, that is pretty cool to me.
