Looking at another instance, it's interesting that Mastodon counts posts as "posts today" rather than "posts in the last 24 hours".

"today" is very arbitrary when you consider differing timezones.

Also, I would wind up opening up a hosepipe of like a post every five minutes 24/7/365.

I considered following an account to federate more memes over to here, but then, I looked at the rest of their content, and it was absolute garbage.

In fairness, trying to gauge levels of interest is a bit tricky. Lots of unknowns.

There is someone who is more interested in my No takes than Yes ones, which is rather curious, lol.

As seems rather evident, people who are disinterested don't seem particularly interested enough to take the time to signal their disinterest.

Lol.

Since I tagged , I'm just mentioning briefly the findings of my crude market research round.

I did a poll which looked into whether someone would like an instance with free expression without meanness.

This was sparked by my discovery of polarization in some content moderation policies.

I looked at some other polls, and I figured that around 8 - 10 responses is about the max it should get.

I got around about half of that in favor, which is... Interesting.

The "No" option was mainly there as a curiosity. It wasn't very useful as a tool to gauge disinterest.

Maybe, I should become an anime reviewer, lol.

I can see why it *might* be uniquely offensive to someone.

The humor references sexual offenders specifically (and rather gratuitously), i.e. candy, rather than simply engaging in edgy scenarios.

But, then, the potential for offense isn't something that is particularly relevant to me here.

Also, this is a tip of the iceberg, because the anime really is joke after joke after joke.

Show thread

While I don't have a problem, if someone else likes it, I'm not really a fan of Wataten. And yes, it's the edgy jokes.

It's not that there is one edgy joke about sex offenders, it is that it seems the entire anime appears to be such jokes. It's joke after joke after joke.

That makes it quite uninteresting to me.

Like, there are anime where a character seduces the teacher for laughs, and that's probably alright.

But then, this anime is just "fall in love with little girl" "bribe her with candy" "snap photos" "I'm calling the police" for laughs.

It's not that I find it uniquely offensive or distasteful, or that I think it is obscene to the eye, it's that it's just not interesting to me.

To me, it's an anime trying far too hard to be edgy. I'm not particularly surprised this anime doesn't seem to have gotten a second season.

Texas' anti-porn law has been blocked by a judge for now.

@wststreet I'm also thinking of how to handle content which someone might not like.

Some kind of label but without hashtag semantics which someone can filter? o.O

While NSFW is a sort of label, it lacks granularity. Some people lump in mere "sexy" (although, this one is kind of a meh example) with outright porn with some photo of dead bodies from a war zone.

While I think war zones are more of a concern on mainstream social media, it kind of illustrates the point.

It's a vexing question...

@wststreet Crude market research round.

What sort of functionality do you look for in a fediverse implementation? If I was to build one, what would you want to see?

If a higher being who is more than human uses this thing I'm writing, I can only apologize for this.

Show thread

It's just for a configuration file though.

It doesn't make much of a difference how long it takes to process it, so long as it isn't perceptible to humans.

What toml library to use.

Let's look at the performance section of this random one.

"Most operations should not be shockingly slow."
Lol.

Well, let's not get that far ahead of myself, first build an implementation which actually works properly (which it seems that other one doesn't).

That'll be a good small goal.
