There are people who spend a lot of time on social media. I don't really want to spend a lot of time on social media. I like the idea of taking a break from social media even.

However, practically turning it into a job by paying for this or spending all this energy getting something setup (and it's not that private) kind of pushes things in that direction.

For a social network, I just want something that is simple and which I can get going on on the spot.

I don't want to fool around with phone numbers (we can partially blame the previous management for this one). I don't want to fool around with credit cards... For something as simple as just getting an account going. I see that and I just can't be bothered with it.

Maybe, for the sake of getting a message out, it might be meaningful, but I just can't be bothered with it.

I just find Twitter too difficult to use at this point with all the obstructions that the new management (and some of it, the old management) have put into place (even something as simple as creating an account is overly complicated).

And then, I'm told that the site is practically pay to win at this point, which is again another obstruction.

So, that is one reason why I don't bother with it.

In 2022, the NSPCC had a spokesman called Andy who behaved a lot like an Internet troll. Essentially all he did was try to stir the pot and behave provocatively.

He had extreme and weirdly opinionated views about tech which he aggressively pushed. He had a tendency of attacking people for fairly common tech worker positions like not wanting to criminalize end-to-end encryption.

Perhaps, because he became too much, the NSPCC ended up getting rid of him. Or perhaps, he left for some other reasons. In any case, he no longer works there.

In fairness, Twitter had a QAnon problem years prior to Elon.

It's insane how I don't pay attention to these people for a few weeks and they've already gone off the deep end.

The NSPCC's former spokesman is now promoting a QAnon conspiracy. Yikes.

Curiously, looking back at an incident from a decade ago, and an incident from two years ago, payment processor, Stripe, has a historic record of censoriousness.

They would hide behind "MasterCard" and "Visa" before backing down under criticism.

Old punditry about the election continues to appear on my home feed (if you remember, it's a bug on this instance from the last update).

As we know, a few higher courts in Japan ruled that the prohibition on same sex marriage is unconstitutional.

Someone argued that because there was a lower court which thought otherwise that there is a split but I'm sceptical of that. I wouldn't write that off so quickly.

It's also important to remember that there is broad support for it among the public (going by polls) and the political environment is moving more in that direction.

I would recommend explicitly putting language in to the effect of depicting a real person though (or involving the abuse of a real person), because the public seems to get confused.

As a rule of thumb, German law does not cover porn involving fictional cartoon characters.

Speaking of transparency, it's a shame that Twitter stopped posting notices to Lumen (they did it early last year).

METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) is 経産省. 省 is ministry.

In short, a lawmaker met with the regulator to figure out what to do about financial censorship.

"METI, which is also in charge of content strategy, should work with other departments to understand why restrictions on expression by acquirers and payment service providers are rapidly expanding, and consider how to deal with this issue."

"METI does not understand why the regulation of expression by acquirers and payment service providers is rapidly increasing."

* regulation of expression

In other words, financial censorship.
