Apparently, Bluesky is upgrading some infra and the bridge is down until that is done.

With the Overlord anime / novel (frankly, someone should probably read the novel as it has extra information), the main character is very powerful with loyal followers. However, he is also comically bad at management and doesn't know what is going on a lot of the time, and is kind of like "yeah, yeah" to his subordinates.

If he says any random word though, the subordinates take it as some brilliant plan which they implement and are like "brilliant plan, supreme one". Sometimes, he accidentally does something "brilliant".

His background was just an ordinary salaryman who liked to play MMO games before being transported.

I should probably watch more of it (well, I've already seen plenty of it), but JoJo is a pretty cool anime.

I feel like I've read this somewhere before. Reincarnated as the 7th prince to learn magic. I probably have.

I see there is now a male bookworm anime, well, he does it to learn magic.

Akame ga Kill and Chaos Dragon are too "let's kill off every character in the cast purely for the sake of being edgy".

I don't like someone using "religion" as an excuse for being a horrible person.

There has always been a thin line between "think of the children" groups and people who hide behind religion to advance their regressive aims.

In a completely unsurprising twist, British "think of the children" group, Barnardos, has ties to a group which likes to hide behind religion to advance their aims.

Even with a title from I think the same person who made SAO, the characters in Accel World are better fleshed out than the ones in SAO. The main character there is more limited.

Maybe, SAO is an okay introduction to the genre.

Also, Kirito himself doesn't have that much of a personality / backstory. He's a fairly plain character. In other titles, the characters are fleshed out more.

I won't say that every show has to be cerebral, that it has to be critically acclaimed, and serious in nature (that would be boring).

And honestly, if someone likes SAO, just as someone might like some of these Hollywood films, then that's cool. I think this sort of story has an appeal to a whole lot of people.

This is simply my experience with it.

If you look at it on it's own, without thought as to what they tried to accomplish, it might look passable, maybe it pads out the catalogue of shows.

However, that was Netflix's attempt to enter the field of anime. And it failed. Miserably.

Thinking of an example of Netflix being overly serious. How about Exception?

Serious. Cerebral. No humor. No one even remembers it exists.

Overly cerebral and serious shows is part of the Netflix curse.

I wouldn't really say it's bad but it is also frankly over-rated compared to what the show actually offers. Also, I think it's interesting to see new characters and new ideas, not seeing Kirito go off onto another map.

While No Game No Life also had characters who entered random games, and were immediately geniuses at it, the show was also pretty clearly a parody.

That doesn't necessarily mean it isn't entertaining but when you have other titles which do try to put their own spin to it, and SAO is only offering another season of same old savior Kirito, then frankly, these are the ones which would be more interesting.

Kirito is kind of what you'd call a Mary Sue. He always wins. He even beat a programmer at a game which he created. All competent (he plugs himself into the computer system and effortlessly pulls down the fairy). Never psychologically vulnerable. A savior character.
